Finca El Cachichin

Finca El Cachichin sits in Villanueva, Misantla, on the slopes of the Sierra de Misantla in central Veracruz — one of Mexico’s older coffee regions, where shade-grown coffee has long shared the forest canopy with native trees.

The farm takes its name from the cachichín (Oecopetalum mexicanum), an edible fruit-bearing tree of Totonac heritage native to the Sierra. Cachichín forests grow alongside traditional shade-coffee plantations, lending the region a distinctive ecology and cultural identity.

What is cachichín?

In Misantla, cachichín names both the Oecopetalum mexicanum tree and its edible seed (boiled or roasted) — local identity often nicknames Misantla people “cachichineros.” In the Sierra, cachichín forests shade traditional coffee plots.

What is Finca El Cachichin?

Finca El Cachichin is a shade-grown specialty coffee farm in Villanueva, Misantla, Veracruz, led by Asael García. Searchers for “cachichin” usually want the tree, Misantla culture, and — for coffee — where TOLO’s lot from this farm comes from.
