Finca Las Ranas

Finca Las Ranas is a specialty-coffee farm in Mecacalco, Altotonga, in the central mountains of Veracruz, at 1,450 meters above sea level. The farm is run by Isabel Hernández — a fourth-generation coffee producer from the Sierra de Mecacalco — alongside her husband Victor Manuel Carlos.

The farm takes its name from the endemic green tree frog — the calate — that appears in the coffee plots during the rainy season. Caring for the frogs shapes the farm's practices: no pesticides, nematicides, herbicides, or fungicides are used on the plots.

Harvest & community

About 90% of the harvest is carried out by women, making coffee the primary source of income for the rural community surrounding the farm.

Variety & process

The farm grows Marsellesa and works with washed and honey processes, including pink and purple honey lots.

Recognition

In 2024, Finca Las Ranas was named one of 11 finalists of the Premio Café Veracruz.

What is Finca Las Ranas?

Finca Las Ranas is a specialty-coffee farm in Mecacalco, Altotonga, Veracruz. Searchers usually want the producers, elevation, how the coffee is processed, and where to taste it — this page covers that story and how it connects to TOLO.

In the cup & at the bar

Marsellesa honey lots (pink and purple) tend to drink juicy and sweet, with ripe fruit and a clean finish — the exact cup shifts with harvest and roast. TOLO roasts and serves coffee from partner farms; for bagged beans see the shop, and to taste it at the bar visit TOLO Pino Suárez in Toluca (tel. +52 56 2915 1741).

Honey process in more detail

Beyond washed lots, Finca Las Ranas honey work leaves mucilage on the bean while drying. Pink honey and purple honey lots differ by how much mucilage remains and how they ferment before drying — that concentrates sweetness and fruit while keeping the cup clear.

Where to buy Finca Las Ranas coffee?

TOLO roasts partner-farm coffee weekly in Toluca. For whole-bean bags go to the online shop (ships MX, US, and Canada; US/CA shipping at checkout, duties by buyer); to taste at the bar visit Pino Suárez in Toluca or call +52 56 2915 1741. Menu lots rotate with harvest — we do not claim a fixed SKU forever.

For wholesale / B2B (cafés, restaurants, hotels, or offices) we quote by kg separately from the retail shop.

Did Finca Las Ranas win Premio Café Veracruz?

In 2024 it was named one of 11 finalists of Premio Café Veracruz — a state recognition for Veracruz specialty coffee. That supports the quality story of its Marsellesa lots; taste it yourself at the bar.
